With the Nintendo Switch 2's imminent arrival, speculation about its launch titles is rampant. While an official lineup remains elusive, we can make educated guesses based on Nintendo's history and anticipated releases. Some predictions, like a new Mario title, are almost certain. However, we also hope to see some exciting new projects from beloved indie developers.

While expecting all these games on day one is optimistic, even half would make for a stellar launch. Here's our hopeful (and realistic) wish list for the Switch 2's debut:

Mario Kart 9

A decade since Mario Kart 8's release, a sequel is highly anticipated. Mario Kart 8's immense success across Wii U and Switch makes a new installment a surefire hit. While details remain scarce, a "new twist" is rumored, promising fresh innovation to extend the franchise's legacy. A Switch 2 launch title would be a powerful statement.

New 3D Super Mario

The Switch surprisingly lacks substantial 3D Mario titles beyond Super Mario Odyssey (2017). A new entry with innovative gameplay, level design, and collectibles is long overdue. A simultaneous launch with Mario Kart 9 would be a dream, though a staggered release would also be welcome. Seven years is too long to wait for a new 3D Mario adventure.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

After years of anticipation and a developer change, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is finally nearing release. Its gameplay reveal hinted at impressive visuals, potentially exceeding the original Switch's capabilities. A Switch 2 launch would be a fitting culmination of the long wait.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom Enhanced

Backward compatibility is expected, but enhanced versions of these masterpieces, leveraging the Switch 2's power for 4K resolution and improved framerates, would be a significant bonus.

Ring Fit Adventure 2

Nintendo often includes unique titles at launch. Ring Fit Adventure's unexpected success suggests a sequel is possible, showcasing the Switch 2's motion control capabilities.

Resident Evil 4 Remake

While graphically demanding, the Switch 2 might be capable of running this critically acclaimed title. Its inclusion would demonstrate the console's power and offer a nostalgic return to Nintendo for a horror classic.

Doom: The Dark Ages

A long shot, but with previous Doom titles on Switch and Microsoft's cross-platform strategy, this new entry could find its way onto the Switch 2.

The Haunted Chocolatier

A sequel to the hugely successful Stardew Valley, this game could be a perfect fit for the Switch 2's handheld mode. A launch-year release seems more likely than a day-one launch.

Earthblade

A follow-up to Celeste, this 2D action game could also grace the Switch 2's launch, given its anticipated 2025 release window.
