In an exciting development for Final Fantasy 14 players, the upcoming Patch 7.16, set to release on January 21, will introduce a much-anticipated change to the reward structure of the Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic) Alliance Raid. Following player feedback, Square Enix announced via social media that players will be able to exchange their excess Clouddark Demimateria 1 for Clouddark Demimateria 2. This change comes in response to the community's desire to access high-demand items more easily, such as the stylish A Half Times Two hairstyle and the impressive Dais of Darkness mount, which require 49 and 75 Clouddark Demimateria 2 respectively.
The Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic) Alliance Raid, introduced on December 24 following Patch 7.15, challenges up to 24 players to battle the iconic final boss from A Realm Reborn's World of Darkness, with added mechanics from the Shadowbringers' Eden raid series. Successful parties earn Clouddark Demimateria 1 and 2, with additional rewards based on the number of first-time clears.
With the new exchange system in Patch 7.16, players will have more opportunities to acquire the coveted hairstyle and mount. These items can also be traded on the market board, so their prices are expected to fluctuate once the patch goes live. Square Enix has indicated that this adjustment is just the beginning, with potential for further modifications based on ongoing player feedback.
Patch 7.16 marks the first content update of 2025 for Final Fantasy 14, featuring the finale of the Dawntrail Role Quest series. While major job balance updates are not expected until Patch 7.2, the community remains eager to see how their feedback will influence future raid content throughout the year.
