Dragon Age Departure Shakes BioWare

Corinne Busche, the director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is reportedly departing from BioWare, an EA-owned studio. Eurogamer reported her departure, expected in the coming weeks, following her tenure as game director from February 2022 until the game's launch last year. EA has yet to comment.

The commercial success of Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been a topic of discussion since its October release. While Eurogamer indicates Busche's departure is unrelated to the game's performance, EA's Q3 2025 financial report (scheduled for February 4th) will offer further clarity on sales figures.

BioWare has confirmed no DLC is planned for The Veilguard, shifting focus to Mass Effect 5. This follows August 2023 layoffs affecting approximately 50 employees, including veteran narrative designer Mary Kirby. These personnel changes coincided with an EA restructuring and rumors of potential acquisitions. The decision to transition Star Wars: The Old Republic to a third-party developer ostensibly aimed to allow BioWare to concentrate on Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

The Dragon Age franchise's journey has been turbulent. The initial reveal trailer for The Veilguard (previously titled Dreadwolf) received negative feedback, prompting BioWare to quickly release gameplay footage to address fan concerns. Despite the initial backlash, subsequent impressions were generally more positive.

The future of the Dragon Age franchise remains uncertain. Whether BioWare will be given the opportunity to develop a sequel to The Veilguard is now a question for fans.
