Hideo Kojima took to the stage at SXSW 2025 in Austin, TX, to unveil an exciting new trailer for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and announce its release date.
Death Stranding 2 is set to launch on June 26, 2025, exclusively for PlayStation 5. Fans who opt for the Digital Deluxe Edition or the Collector’s Edition will enjoy early access starting June 24, giving them a head start on the adventure.
The trailer, which spans 10 minutes, showcases a blend of cinematic sequences and gameplay footage. One of the standout moments features a character played by Italian actor Luca Marinelli, who strikingly resembles Snake from Kojima's renowned Metal Gear series. This character, named Neil, sports a bandana similar to Snake's and leads a group of eerie soldiers, wielding an assault rifle.
The trailer further amplifies the Metal Gear connection with the introduction of the Magellan Man, a massive tar-like entity fused with the DHV Magellan, reminiscent of Metal Gear Rex. A 15" statue of the Magellan Man is included in the Collector's Edition. The Magellan Man is operated like a mech from Pacific Rim and battles against formidable tar monsters.
Pricing for Death Stranding 2 includes the standard edition at $69.99, the Digital Deluxe Edition at $79.99, and the Collector's Edition at $229.99. Pre-orders will be available starting March 17.
Continuing the narrative from the 2019 original, Death Stranding 2 poses the thought-provoking question, "Should We Have Connected?" Here's the official synopsis:
