Choosing Your Path in Citizen Sleeper 2: A Class Guide

Citizen Sleeper 2 kicks off with a crucial decision: selecting your starting class. Operator, Machinist, and Extractor each offer unique strengths and weaknesses, impacting your gameplay experience significantly. This guide breaks down each class, helping you choose the best fit for your playstyle.

Operator

The Operator excels in Interface, starting with a bonus and base levels in Intuit and Engage. Engineer remains undeveloped, and Endure is un-levelable. Their special ability lets them trade Stress to re-roll their lowest die.

While powerful later, the Operator can struggle early on. The re-roll ability, though helpful, doesn't guarantee success. However, a strong Interface skill is invaluable. Role-playing wise, the Operator is versatile, fitting various character archetypes.

Machinist

The Machinist boasts a strong Engineer skill, complemented by base levels in Interface and Intuit. Engage is un-levelable. Their ability allows a Stress sacrifice for +2 to their lowest die, further enhanced as the game progresses, with added Stress reduction on positive outcomes.

This class proved highly effective in my first playthrough. The ability to mitigate Stress and bolster dice rolls in crucial situations is incredibly valuable, especially given the frequent need for Engineer and Interface checks.

From a role-playing standpoint, the Machinist appeals to players interested in the game's technical and mechanical aspects.

Extractor

The Extractor starts with a significant advantage in Endure, along with base levels in Engineer and Engage. Intuit is un-levelable. Their ability allows them to spend Stress to add +2 to their crew's lowest die, an ability that scales throughout the game.

The Extractor's ability shines in managing Contract risks. The initial Endure bonus is also a considerable asset, given the game's frequent Endure checks. However, an abundance of crew members with Endure and Engage might lessen this advantage.

Role-playing wise, the Extractor suits players who prefer a more physically capable and resilient character.

This guide offers a comprehensive overview to help you make an informed decision when choosing your class in Citizen Sleeper 2.
