Firaxis Games Delays Civilization 7's Inaugural In-Game Event
Civilization 7 Prioritizes Quality-of-Life Enhancements
Firaxis Games announced on February 28, 2025, that Civilization 7 (Civ 7)'s first in-game event will be postponed. This decision allows the team to focus on essential quality-of-life improvements. Their Development Roadmap outlines the plan for the next update.
Update 1.1.0, launching March 4, 2025, on PC and consoles (with a separate Nintendo Switch release), will omit the planned "Natural Wonder Battle" event. Firaxis explained, "Although our first in-game Event*, Natural Wonder Battle, was originally planned for Update 1.1.0 on March 4, events are now being postponed to a later update to allow us more time to prioritize quality-of-life improvements for players worldwide. We’ll share more details about the first in-game event once we’re ready."
Since its early access release, Civ 7 has received mixed reviews, with criticism particularly directed at the user interface (UI). Acknowledging this feedback, Firaxis stated, "We are aware of and looking into feedback on the game's UI," adding, "We're continuing to make improvements to Civilization 7, and appreciate you taking the time to drop your feedback."
Update 1.1.0 Directly Addresses Community Feedback
Update 1.1.0 directly addresses player feedback. While full patch notes will be released with the update, Firaxis highlighted key improvements: a free new natural wonder, the Bermuda Triangle; significant UI enhancements; and substantial changes to the Modern Age's Cultural Legacy Path and Victory, improving AI performance in achieving Cultural Victories.
The first half of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection will also launch alongside the update. Firaxis clarifies, "Players who own either of those editions, or have purchased the Crossroads of the World Collection separately, will receive this content automatically with Update 1.1.0."
Next Major Update Scheduled for March 25, 2025
Building on the improvements in 1.1.0, another major update is planned for March 25, 2025 (subject to change). UI improvements remain a top priority: "Ongoing improvements to the User Interface continues to be a top priority for the development team. The updates being introduced on March 25 are just one part of a much larger plan that aims to improve the UI over the next several months."
Beyond March, Firaxis intends to continue enhancing Civ 7. Planned features include a "one more turn" option extending gameplay beyond the Modern Age, auto-explore functionality, new map sizes (PC and consoles, excluding Switch), multiplayer improvements, and more.
Firaxis concluded, "We’re in the process of scoping the work necessary to bring these priorities to the game as soon as we can. Some of these will be delivered as early as April (subject to change), though many will take longer to develop, test, and deploy. As always in development, plans can change and we'll have more details to share here in the weeks and months ahead as plans solidify. We appreciate your continued patience in the meantime!"
