Does Civilization 7 Have Cross-Play and Cross-Progression (Civ 7)?

Sid Meier's *Civilization VII* marks a new era for the iconic turn-based strategy series, launching across major gaming platforms. A key question for players is whether cross-play and cross-progression are supported. Let's dive in.

Does *Civilization VII* Have Cross-Play?

Civilization VII offers cross-play, but with important caveats. An active 2K account, linked across platforms, is required. However, compatibility varies. On PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, macOS, and Linux, cross-play functions seamlessly, offering all standard maps and player counts across historical ages.

The exception is the Nintendo Switch. Due to hardware limitations, the Switch version supports smaller map sizes and fewer players in certain eras compared to other platforms. Specifically, the Switch cannot handle standard or larger map sizes. Multiplayer games on Switch are limited to four players in Antiquity and Exploration Ages, and six players in the Modern Age. Cross-play involving a Switch player will be subject to these limitations. While the Switch version is playable, these limitations should be considered, especially for online multiplayer.

Does *Civilization VII* Have Cross-Progression?

Civilization VII cross-progression

Unlike cross-play, Civilization VII's cross-progression is straightforward. With an active 2K account, your progress is synced across all linked platforms. Play on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, or any other supported platform, and your progress will be saved and accessible on all. This is a significant improvement over Civilization VI, where this feature was added post-launch. Civilization VII launches with cross-progression built-in, reflecting modern gaming expectations. Whether you're playing on a Steam Deck, Switch, PC, or console, your progress is seamlessly carried over.

Civilization VII releases on February 11.
