Batman Reborn: New #1 Comic, New Suit

Author: Hazel Mar 13,2025

2025 is shaping up to be a monumental year for DC's Batman. Chip Zdarsky's run concludes with Batman #157, making way for Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee's "Hush 2" in March. Following "Hush 2," a relaunched Batman series debuts with a new #1 issue, writer, and costume.

As announced at the ComicsPro retailer event, Matt Fraction (Uncanny X-Men, The Invincible Iron Man) will pen the new Batman volume, with artist Jorge Jimenez returning. They've designed a new costume and Batmobile. The new suit swaps the classic black and gray for a vintage-inspired blue and gray design. See the new Batsuit below:

"Batman was the first comic I ever read," Fraction shared. "Jorge and I have a superhero-focused approach. We've got a new Batmobile, costume, new and familiar characters—all the elements that make Batman iconic. We aim to celebrate it all."

Batman #1 arrives in September 2025.

DC also revealed updates to their Superman line at ComicsPro, continuing their "Summer of Superman" event. Supergirl gets a new series and costume (designed by Stanley "Artgerm" Lau), written and drawn by Sophie Campbell (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). The series returns Kara to Midvale.

"I've primarily worked on graphic novels," Campbell explained. "This feels like a return to my roots. My inspiration for Kara comes from 70s stories, the 1984 Supergirl movie, and the CW show."

Action Comics welcomes a new creative team: Mark Waid (Justice League Unlimited) and artist Skylar Patridge. The series focuses on Clark Kent's teenage years in Smallville, exploring his early experiences with his powers as Superboy.

"The book starts with 15-year-old Clark learning to be a superhero," Waid stated. "Skylar and I are modernizing Smallville—it retains its rustic charm, but farms have changed."

Waid and Patridge's run begins with Action Comics #1087 in June.

Finally, Krypto gets his own five-issue miniseries, "Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton," as part of the DC All In initiative. Written by Ryan North (Fantastic Four) and drawn by Mike Norton (Revival), the series delves into Krypto's origin story.

"Krypto's origin has always been high-level," North commented. "The chance to show what a lost dog would experience on Earth was appealing. We treat Krypto as a dog—he doesn't talk, and we don't use thought bubbles."

Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton #1 releases June 18th.

PlayComicsPro also revealed Marvel's Captain America relaunch this summer, with Zdarsky writing and Valerio Schiti drawing. An early look at Godzilla's new interconnected comic universe is also available.
