Assassin's Creed Games Ranked: A Tier List

Author: George Apr 14,2025

The latest addition to Ubisoft's renowned stealth-action open-world franchise, Assassin's Creed Shadows, has finally arrived. As fans eagerly dive into this new installment set in 16th-century Japan, the question arises: where does it fit within the storied lineage of the Assassin's Creed series? With over 30 games released under the Assassin's Creed banner, we're focusing solely on the mainline entries, excluding mobile, side-scrolling, VR, and spin-offs like Bloodlines or Liberation.

The journey began in 2007 with Desmond Miles stepping into the Animus to embody his ancestor Altaïr. Now, 18 years later, players control Naoe and Yasuke in the 14th core series game. I've ranked these mainline titles based on my personal enjoyment using an IGN Tier List, which you can explore here:

Simon Cardy's Assassin's Creed Tier List

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remains my top pick, nestled in the S-tier. Its blend of island exploration, ship combat, and vibrant characters delivers what I believe to be the quintessential Assassin's Creed experience. Joining it in the S-tier is Assassin’s Creed 2, which truly propelled the series into the spotlight. In the A-tier, you'll find Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, which might surprise some due to its extensive content. However, I thoroughly enjoyed the Viking-inspired combat and the Orlog minigame. Alongside Valhalla sits Assassin’s Creed Unity, whose depiction of French Revolution-era Paris remains breathtaking even a decade later.

Do you disagree with my rankings? Perhaps you find Valhalla too bloated or consider Assassin’s Creed 2 overrated? You have the chance to create your own tier list below, comparing your S, A, B, C, and D tiers with the broader IGN community.
