Alienware Slashes Prices on RTX 4090 Gaming PCs

Author: Hannah Mar 29,2025

The GeForce RTX 4090, while a generation older than the new Blackwell 50 series GPUs, remains one of the most powerful graphics cards available, surpassing the performance of the GeForce RTX 5080, RTX 4080 Super, Radeon RX 9070 XT, and RX 7900 XTX. Only the RTX 5090 outperforms it, but securing one at a reasonable price is nearly impossible due to high markups.

As the RTX 4090 has been discontinued, it's increasingly difficult to find. However, Dell offers two prebuilt gaming PCs equipped with this powerhouse GPU at competitive prices. The Alienware Aurora R16 starts at $2,999.99, while the Dell Tower Plus begins at $2,849.99. These are currently the best deals for an RTX 4090-equipped system, especially as other manufacturers like Lenovo and HP have stopped offering RTX 4090 prebuilt PCs.

$2,999.99 at Alienware

This Alienware Aurora R16 gaming PC features an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. The CPU can be upgraded to an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K, though for gaming, the default processor is more than sufficient. With a max turbo frequency of 5.3GHz and 20 cores, the Intel Core Ultra 7 265F is robustly cooled by a 240mm all-in-one liquid cooler. The system is powered by a 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.

The Dell Tower Plus gaming PC offers similar specs with an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. For an additional $100, upgrading to the Intel Core Ultra 7 285K is recommended, as it enhances the CPU cooling from standard to advanced air cooling, suitable for a 125W TDP. The system also runs on a 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.

Performance Comparison of RTX 4090 with Current Cards

The RTX 4090 stands as the most powerful GPU in the RTX 40 series. It outperforms every other GPU except the RTX 5090, which has a $2,000 MSRP. Capable of running games at 4K resolution with over 60fps even with max settings and ray tracing enabled, the RTX 4090's performance is further enhanced by DLSS. Path tracing remains a challenge for all GPUs, but it's rarely used outside of benchmarks or social media showcases. For most gamers, the RTX 4090's capabilities are more than enough.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 GPU Review by Chris Coke

"The RTX 4090 may be large and pricey, but its performance is unmatched. Given its current status as the only available card of its generation, it outshines all past competitors. With its impressive specs and DLSS 3, the $1,599 price tag feels justified for the unparalleled frame rates it delivers."

Dell also offers an Alienware Aurora R16 equipped with the new GeForce RTX 5080 for $2,499.99. The RTX 5080, one of the new Blackwell GPUs, is hard to find. According to Jackie's review of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 FE, it doesn't offer a significant performance boost over the RTX 4080, but its DLSS 4 Multi-Frame Generation improves visuals in supported games. It's a worthwhile upgrade for those with older GPUs seeking a substantial performance increase.
