Tides Of Annihilation Trailer Showcases Fast-Paced Combat
A Sneak Peek Into An Apocalyptic London
First unveiled at the recent PlayStation State of Play, the hack-and-slash action-adventure game Tides of Annihilation has heightened anticipation for its release with an extended gameplay trailer. The trailer features early development footage with protagonist Gwendolyn and her sword-transforming companion, Niniane, navigating the ruins of a desolate, otherworldly London devastated by an Outworld invasion. As they traverse the crumbling streets, they encounter numerous enemies. The trailer reveals that Gwendolyn has the unique ability to summon a group of over ten legendary knights, inspired by King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.
After clearing the path of adversaries and further exploration through a magical portal, the duo engages in a boss fight with a character named Mordred, who has opposing goals and is determined to thwart Gwendolyn's plans. This boss fight highlights the game's action-packed combat, underscored by a haunting choir, adding to the immersive experience.
According to the game's producer, Kun Fu, featured on the PlayStation.Blog, the battle system will offer "intuitive co-op combat in a single-player experience." Players can summon two spectral knights with distinct combat roles at a time, requiring strategic decision-making based on the situation. "The interplay between Gwendolyn and the knights creates a dynamic, fast-paced, and deeply engaging combat experience. It’s a system that our team (veterans from top game studios) fell in love with during internal playtests."
A Nod To Devil May Cry And Bayonetta
The community's response to the trailer has been overwhelmingly positive, with fans praising the game's art direction, style, and fluid hack-and-slash combat. Many have drawn comparisons to classic franchises like Devil May Cry and Bayonetta, while also noting similarities to Elden Ring, NieR: Automata, Stellar Blade, and Final Fantasy 16. Enthusiasts have expressed their excitement and acknowledged the game's "immense potential," with many planning to purchase it upon launch.
Tides of Annihilation marks the debut title from Chengdu-based game studio Eclipse Glow Games, blending Arthurian legend with an alternate modern-day London. Players will step into the role of heroine Gwendolyn, a survivor of an apocalyptic event. While no specific release date has been announced, the game is set to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
